Lessons in Adaptability

Unexpected things can happen to us anytime. Whether they cause anxiety, happiness or shock, depends on the situation. On Friday, I was about to start one of my classes when for some reason, I could not make a video call on Messenger. The strange thing was that the student who I wanted to call was the only one who I could not call. On top of that, while we were trying to solve the problem, I accidentally put her onto the restricted list and I could not bring her back. The Facebook Help Center – as usual – was useless. Eventually, she managed to register a Skype account and we held the class there. I prefer Skype to Messenger anyway. It is more flexible and the video quality is better. Afterwards, I could unblock her but it took a while to figure out which menu hid this option. I have no idea why Facebook always changes and hides its options but it is very annoying. Anyway, we only had a 15 minute long discussion instead of a class because the time passed.

Then I had another class on Teams and the video room did not load – it took some time until the load was done and I could enter the room to hold the class. These unexpected technical problems were a bit annoying but as I see, I could handle them.

I say again, unexpected things can happen at any moment, and it’s crucial to remain adaptable and resilient when facing challenges. When I encountered technical difficulties during my classes, such as being unable to make a video call on Messenger and experiencing delays in loading a video room on Teams, I realized the importance of finding alternative solutions and remaining patient. Despite the initial frustration, I was able to navigate through the obstacles by using Skype instead of Messenger and waiting for the Teams video room to load. This experience taught me the value of staying calm and maintaining a positive attitude in the face of adversity. It also reminded me of the need to be flexible and resourceful in overcoming unexpected hurdles.
