Today was a stressful day, but mostly for my wife. She had to undergo a minor surgery and she was going to receive impatient treatment. In the meantime, I will stay at a local accommodation because it would not be practical to go home, which is 100 km away. This way, I could visit her every day because the accommodation is only 2 km away. By the way, booking this accommodation has a funny story. This is the second accommodation that I booked. The first one was 10 km away and my wife asked why I booked that one, so far away. The thing is, I could not see any other places to stay closer than 6 km. The ones in that range were too expensive but my wife told me a few thousand forint would not make a huge difference.
So while we were waiting at the hospital for the admission and registration, we quickly booked this motel much closer to the hospital. I was happy because I did not have to drive that far. While we were waiting for our doctor, I was hoping that I could talk to her to make sure that everything was going to be all right but I did not have the chance to talk to her. I managed to convey an important message to them though: not to give her a medication called Cerucal (it is called Reglan in the US). I read that it is a very nasty medicine with serious neurological side effects and I did not trust this medication so I told the nursed not to use this. Fortunately, they would not.
So after our doctor registered my wife, we said good bye to each other and we both hoped that things would go smoothly. I was getting more and more anxious, even though it was not me who was going under the knife. On the other hand, my wife looked quite calm. She is usually a placid and easy-going person anyway – I have always envied her cool-headedness.
So after I left the hospital, I went to my accommodation. It was basically a petrol station with a motel. It was a modern, clean, building where grey was the most dominant colour. I checked-in and I had two classes in the evening. After the classes I went down to the bar and I drank a beer because I was still anxious about the upcoming surgery of my wife. But while we were texting to each other, her calm tone eased my mind. Tomorrow, when the surgery is done, we will get over it.
In light of this day, I can say that individuals facing stressful situations, such as a loved one undergoing surgery, may experience heightened anxiety and concern for the well-being of the person undergoing the medical procedure. The ability to communicate, share concerns, and receive reassurance can contribute to alleviating anxiety levels and fostering emotional support during challenging times.
All in all, effective communication and emotional support play crucial roles in managing anxiety and promoting well-being, especially when dealing with medical procedures or stressful events.
