My Ongoing Sleep Saga

Lately, sleep has become a bit of a challenge. I’ve always been a somewhat anxious person, and it often feels like there’s always something going on — something to worry about, something to feel tense about. But last night was particularly frustrating. Every time I just started to drift off, I snored myself awake. It was like my body was playing tricks on me. That little snore would jolt me right back to full consciousness, again and again. Not exactly the gentle transition into dreamland I was hoping for.

I’ve also noticed I’ve been blowing my nose quite a lot these days, and I wonder if that might be contributing to my sleep disruption. Maybe some congestion is causing those snores to sneak in just as I’m dozing off?

In my search for answers — and trust me, I’ve been asking everything — I came across a simple but surprisingly effective tip: elevate your head while sleeping.

It makes sense, really. When you lie completely flat, your tongue and the soft tissues in your throat are more likely to relax and partially block your airway. That’s what causes that familiar (and frustrating) snoring sound. But by slightly elevating your head with a pillow or two, you can help keep the airway more open. This simple trick can make a big difference in reducing snoring and easing breathing during sleep.

The key, of course, is to make sure the pillows are supportive — not too soft, not too firm — and they shouldn’t put your neck in an awkward angle. It’s all about finding that balance between elevation and comfort.

So tonight, I’m going to give it a proper try — a couple of pillows, a bit of elevation, and hopefully, a lot more rest. If you’re dealing with similar sleep issues, maybe this small adjustment can help you too.

We’ll see how it goes. Sleep is a journey, and I’m still figuring mine out — one night at a time.
