I came across a post on Reddit stating that wages at McDonald’s are significantly higher than those of teachers. As a self-employed language teacher, if circumstances were to suddenly change and I needed to switch jobs, I would seriously consider working at McDonald’s, a fast-food restaurant, a clothing store, or even at a lángos stand or gyro shop.
Why? Well, I’ve grown tired of being confined to an office and being told what to do by a boss. I would prefer engaging in light physical work as it would make time pass more quickly and keep me from getting bored. Alternatively, I would also contemplate becoming a food delivery person. This would involve visiting different places every day and time would fly by.
Furthermore, I have prior experience in this field, having done it before. However, I would only make such a change if it became necessary due to government-imposed circumstances. For example, if the monthly taxes were increased and as a result, I lost students because I had to raise my fees. I’ve always had this fear that the government might do something like this, but hopefully, it seems that they leave us self-employed individuals in peace for now.
Teaching is the only area where I feel competent, and I would prefer not to switch to another white-collar job. However, in the worst-case scenario, I would consider supplementing my teaching job with a part-time job.
