Buying souvenirs when we are on holiday is not really our habit. When we go somewhere in the country where we live, we just do not need any souvenirs because life and culture are the same everywhere; this is a small country in Central Europe, you see.
When we go abroad, our souvenirs are our memories and the photos and videos that we take. I do not think there is a better way to remember something than the photos you took. Sometimes my wife and I just watch those photos and we talk about the moment with joy.
However, when I visit my wife’s country, I am always tempted to take home something as it is an Asian country, which is very far from where we live.
If I had to choose a souvenir, I would probably buy books at each place. Perhaps because reading is one of my free time activities so whenever I look at the bookshelf, the particular book would remind me of the country that we visited.
Oh buy the way, one of my wife’s sisters like fridge magnet, so sometimes she buys one for her.
However, we both have a habit that can count as an exemption. Whenever we go somewhere alone, we usually buy something for the other one. It is just a small gift that my wife calls pasalubo. I am not sure this is the right spelling of this word but this is what souvenir iscalled in her language.
This is just a small gift that expresses that we missed each other while we were away.
