I read in The Strait Times that Canada had a devastating wildfire season, with a firefighter tragically losing their life, marking the third firefighter death. The incident occurred at the Donnie Creek wildfire in British Columbia. Canada has witnessed massive wildfires burning over 12 million hectares, surpassing the size of Cuba or South Korea. British Columbia alone has 368 active fires, while Canada is battling over 990 fires, with 613 considered uncontrollable. Canada’s susceptibility to climate change-related extreme weather events, due to its geographic location, has amplified the severity of these wildfires.
I’m seriously heartbroken about the wildlife in British Columbia. I’ve always had mad respect for that green, wild paradise. I’ve been dreaming of hitting it up someday.
This news takes me back to watching that TV series Alone with my wife. Those hardcore survivors, they’re the real deal when it comes to roughing it in the wild. But even some of the toughest can’t make it till the end. It’s a real grind out there. But the incessant rain, the fog, and the mysterious vibe of that area make it so special to me.
Now, thinking about those fires tearing through that pristine wilderness, it’s beyond sad. These wildfires must be stopped as soon as possible or we’re going to lose a priceless piece of our planet. British Columbia is a spot that should stay untouched, no doubt.
