France planning to ban disposable vapes in effort to combat smoking

I read an article in the Guardian that France planned to ban disposable vapes, called “puffs,” to combat smoking, particularly among young people. Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne is finalizing a national anti-smoking plan. While it won’t raise cigarette taxes, it will target flavored disposable e-cigarettes, which are seen as a gateway to smoking for teens. Several other countries, including Germany, Australia, and New Zealand, are also considering or implementing bans on disposable vapes due to health concerns. France aims to enact the ban later this year.

I’m totally on board with this move. I get it, quitting smoking is not easy, and sometimes you need a crutch to lean on, right? But seriously, some folks are using these disposable vapes just to flex, and it’s a bit much. It’s like they’re saying, “Hey, if you want to roll with us, you have to puff on this disposable vape.” I can sometimes see young people puffing away during their break, and it feels like they’re just trying to show off – at least that’s how it looks to me.

Thank goodness, I kicked the smoking habit back in the day without needing any substitutes. And let’s not forget, we are not even sure what’s inside those disposable vapes. That’s a potential health hazard right there. A respected toxicologist in my country also pointed out that we’re in the dark about what’s lurking in those vapes. Stay smart.
