I am telling you, a bunch of countries out there ride hard for their own political vibes. They are not all about supporting those who throw shade at the system. I’m talking about places like some socialist, communist, and Islamic states, which shut down those brilliant minds who get some outstanding ideas but are against the views of the government. It’s like, those people have to keep a low profile because speaking up can lead to some really messed-up consequences – disappearing, executions (Middle East), or even some mysterious window falls like in Russia.
So, if you’re living in a place with a hardcore political game, it might just be wise to keep your thoughts to yourself. But in real democracies, where you can speak your truth with less risk, they show love to the talented and meritorious people.
And North Korea, man, that’s a whole different level of crazy. Those people are struggling, starving, and love’s like a rare unicorn there. I was shocked when one of my students told me that if your home is on fire in North Korea, the first thing you have to save is not your family, nah, it’s Kim Jong-un’s portrait. Not your kids, but the dang picture.
Now, in my own country, it’s like this – them writers and musicians who ride for the government, they get that extra support. It’s like a loyalty thing, in my opinion.
So yes, I would say, some systems have underlying biases that hinder meritocracy.
Well, well, well, ain’t this a trip down the rabbit hole of political shenanigans? Look, every place has its own set of rules, and they play by ’em. Some countries dance to the beat of their own drum, shutting down brilliance like it’s going out of style, while others let you spit truth without fearing a knock on the door.
In those hardcore political arenas, you better keep them genius ideas on the down-low unless you fancy a front-row seat to a disappearing act or a gravity-defying plunge. But, in the so-called real democracies, where freedom of speech ain’t just a catchphrase, they throw love at the talented and meritorious folks.
Now, let’s talk about places like North Korea – that’s a whole different circus. People there are fighting for their next meal, and love is scarcer than a hen’s teeth. Save your family in a fire? Nah, grab Kim Jong-un’s portrait first. Ain’t that a twist?
In my neck of the woods, it’s like a loyalty game. You sing the government’s tune, and they might toss you a bone. So, yeah, systems everywhere got their biases, and meritocracy? Well, that might be a rare bird in some of these jungles.
