When it comes to films, do you find villains or antagonists with a mendacious nature more intriguing?

Personally, there are some characters who I find more interesting even though they are mendacious. For example, there was Negan from The Walking Dead. He was the infamous leader of the Saviors, known for his sadistic tendencies, brutal enforcement of rules, and iconic weapon, “Lucille,” a barbed wire-wrapped baseball bat. I think Negan is a multi-dimensional character with layers of complexity. He’s not a one-dimensional villain; he’s charismatic, charming, witty, and intelligent. I think this complexity makes him intriguing. His witty one-liners and the swagger he exudes, combined with his ability to manipulate and lead, make him fascinating to watch. Negan operates under a morally ambiguous code and he justifies his actions with a twisted sense of order and protection for his community,

Hannibal Lecter is a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer, known for his menacing intelligence and sophisticated demeanor. In my opinion, Hannibal Lecter is exceptionally intelligent, often portrayed as a genius psychiatrist and a mastermind. His unparalleled intellect and keen observational skills make him intriguing to me. Lecter is incredibly charming, eloquent, and charismatic, even though he is a cannibalistic serial killer. This duality in his personality is captivating and let’s not forget that Lecter operates in a morally ambiguous space. He has his own code of ethics and standards, which, while warped, showcase a sense of morality. This complexity challenges conventional notions of right and wrong. He is portrayed as a refined and cultured individual, appreciating the finer things in life like art, music, and cuisine. I think the contrast between his aesthetics and his dark actions is a compelling aspect of his character.

In Demolition Man, Sylvester Stallone’s character, John Spartan, faces off against Simon Phoenix, portrayed by Wesley Snipes. Simon Phoenix is a violent and sadistic criminal who was captured by Spartan in the late 20th century but escapes during a cryo-prison rehabilitation experiment. When Phoenix resurfaces in a crime-free, utopian future society, Spartan is thawed out to capture and stop him once again. I think he is quick-witted, bold and a colorful character. He is known for his flashy attire, bold behavior, and unpredictable actions. He is a mix of violence, humor, and cunning, making him stand out.
