Lessons of the Sanctuary

Last night, we came back from Davao. Again, we exploited the day to the full and we had fantastic experiences. If you’re looking for a location in the Davao region of Mindanao that not only offers bird-watching but also bird shows, you should visit the Malagos Garden Resort.

We could see many birds – some of them in cages while others were free. The sanctuary takes care of the birds, especially nowadays because the avian flu is spreading in South East Asia. The Bird Show itself was an educational and entertaining experience and we could see various bird species up close, including raptors and other exotic birds. It was a great opportunity to learn about these birds and their conservation. As I noticed, it is a popular attraction for families and tourists.

In addition to the bird show, in the gardens and on the nature trails we could observe and enjoy the natural beauty and birdlife in the area. We also had a nice lunch in one of the main buildings.

Oh and to us, the most fun of that day was bird feeding. These cute and smart small parrots landed on out hands, heads and shoulders, picking up the seeds but they especially loved our salty sweat.

After that, we took a guided tour in the Philippine Eagle Center. It is a conservation and breeding facility for the critically endangered Philippine eagle.

While walking in the forested facility, we could learn about these magnificent birds, their habitat, and the conservation efforts being made to save them from extinction. After the tour, we spent our time in the mall in downtown and hung around for a while because we had a late flight.

I learned the value of exploring new places and immersing myself in their unique offerings. The sanctuary not only offered entertainment through bird shows but also educated me about conservation efforts, particularly in the face of threats like avian flu. Interacting with the birds, especially the cute parrots, was a memorable experience that deepened my appreciation for nature.

Learning about the critically endangered Philippine eagle and the efforts to save it from extinction highlighted the importance of wildlife conservation. Exploring the forested facility and understanding the eagle’s habitat further enriched my understanding of environmental issues.

Beyond nature, my time in downtown Davao allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture, rounding out my trip with leisurely activities and interactions with the community. Overall, my journey taught me to cherish the beauty of nature, embrace new experiences, and foster environmental awareness wherever I go.
