Birdwatching, Shopping, and Safe Visits: My Saturday in Budapest

This morning we had a guest on our balcony: it was a great tit. It was looking for food because the bird was searching for something intensely: it flew from one corner to the other. I think the tit was hungry. At that moment I was thinking about buying some food for birds that we could place on our balcony. I think the birds would appreciate it in the winter.

Later, I went shopping for some gifts for my nephew, who is 1 year old. It was difficult to find a proper gifts but I ended up with some clothes, a toy helicopter and a book about stories for children. Then I went to my brother’s place alone because my wife was still having a rest as she was healing and we did not want to risk infecting the child. I did not contact him in person either, I just said hello to him through the balcony door while standing outside in the garden.

In spite of the fact that it was Saturday, the traffic was quite heavy in Budapest – well, I should not be surprised as it is a capital. After I dropped off my parents at the train station, I headed home.

I learned a few valuable lessons. Firstly, observing the great tit on our balcony reminded me of the importance of being considerate towards nature. Witnessing the bird’s intense search for food made me realize that I could contribute to their well-being by providing a bird feeder during the winter. It’s a small gesture, but I believe the birds would genuinely appreciate it. Another lesson came from my shopping experience for my one-year-old nephew. Finding suitable gifts proved to be quite challenging, but I eventually settled on a combination of clothes, a toy helicopter, and a book of children’s stories. This reminded me of the importance of thoughtfulness and considering the recipient’s age and interests when choosing presents. Additionally, my visit to my brother’s place taught me the significance of taking necessary precautions for the well-being of others.

Since my wife was still recovering and we wanted to avoid any risk of infection for the child, I refrained from entering their home. Instead, I greeted my brother from outside the balcony door, ensuring everyone’s safety. Lastly, the heavy traffic in Budapest on a Saturday served as a reminder of the realities of living in a capital city. It reinforced the need for patience and understanding when dealing with crowded roads and unexpected delays. Overall, today provided me with insights about the importance of nature, consideration for others, thoughtful gift-giving, and the realities of city life. These lessons will stay with me as I continue to navigate my daily experiences.
