I recently came across some articles written about Volodymyr Zelensky, criticizing the way he had dressed when he met the American president. Is this really what matters? He has much more pressing issues than how his outfit looked.
If I were a president and my country was being invaded, I would not give a shit to how I am dressed.
He is wearing combat gear including a camouflage coloured sweatshirt, similar coloured pants and combat boots, a stark contrast to US President Joe Biden who was wearing a blue shirt.
This is not about disrespect: his choice of clothing speaks volumes about his own desperation and conveys the gravity of the situation to those around him. It speaks of the struggles of his nation and the desperation he feels. It shows how genuine he is and how much he needs help. Donning a suit in such a situation would be an act of hypocrisy, and his clothing carries a much stronger message than mere words could.
It is a surprise to me that some folks would complain about his clothing choice when his home is experiencing an onslaught. I find it hard to understand how people can be so concerned about his attire when citizens are being killed in a conflict of such magnitude.
He was also likened to a manager of a strip club demanding money. No one likes having to ask for money or owing someone else, yet here he was in this situation. It was a message of the dire straits his nation is in.
Only someone truly desperate would beg for anything that might help them improve their situation.
