Today I went out for my regular walk to burn some fat. While I was walking in the forest, someone stopped me and I realized who it was: one of my former English teacher colleagues. I had left the language school where I taught a long time ago because it has just been more practical to teach at home online since we moved to the suburbs. She told me there were few teachers and the salaries were low. I asked her if she could help us manage an errand at the bank because they needed an interpreter. I could not be that because the interpreter had to be someone who was not related to my wife. She was taken by surprise and asked how come I could not be the interpreter with my perfect English? I was not sure if she was sarcastic or meant it. Anyway, we had a nice chat, talking about the attitudes of the students nowadays, sports activities, and our livelihoods.
So it was a serendipitous encounter with my former colleague. To me, it is sometimes interesting to hear about the challenges and changes in the teaching industry. It was great that I was able to catch up on various topics.
