Bomb Threat at Our School

Over 300 schools across Hungary, including nearly 270 in Budapest, received bomb threats via email. The threats caused widespread evacuations, disrupted school programs, and affected national events like the Irinyi Chemistry Competition and exam result viewings.

Police found no explosives, but conducted full checks. Prime Minister Orbán stated he was in direct contact with Interior Minister Pintér, and security would be strengthened. The MÁV railway suspended student ticket checks to ease travel.

The government is considering tougher penalties for such threats. Investigations are ongoing.

At our school, I came across these news and mentioned it to my colleagues. We even joked that maybe we’d get to go home early. But soon it stopped being funny—our principal came into the staff room and told us to evacuate immediately and head to the nearby park.

The students didn’t take it seriously at first, so some had to be disciplined. Out in the park, many were confused, and since we weren’t given much information ourselves, all we could say was, “We know as much as you do.”

After waiting a while, we were told to move to another school building where it was warmer. Personally, I didn’t really see the point, given that all schools were affected.

Thankfully, nothing was found during the search of our school. TV reporters showed up and asked for interviews, but we all declined—though a few of our students did speak to them.
