Have you ever wondered what makes effective storytelling tick?
The architecture of dread in this style often relies on a clear yet twisting plot, designed to keep the reader disoriented and on edge.
The Immediate Hook and Inciting Incident starts with the Unsettling:
Many stories begin by introducing an immediate mystery or an unsettling observation that deviates from the norm. This could be a character’s desperate internal state, like Thomas’s chronic insomnia in my story titled “A Restful Sleep”, or an inexplicable external phenomenon, such as the mysterious whispering in my “Whispers in the Dark”. The goal is to grab the reader’s attention instantly and establish a sense of unease or curiosity.
