I believe the bicycle is one of the greatest inventions of humanity. It does not require fuel, is quite simple to operate, is inexpensive to maintain, is relatively quick and has a positive impact on one’s health.
When I was younger, my cousin and I would go cycling together every weekend. We’d explore our town, giving imaginative names to certain roads and places. It was my favourite way to spend my free time.
Once I passed my driving test, I started using a car to travel everywhere and eventually abandoned my bicycle. In hindsight, I should have kept this habit. Although it wouldn’t be as efficient, I still could take a bike and get around but unfortunately, I’m short on time and going by car is more practical. Even more, our home is located far from the city centre and it would take too long to go there on two wheels.
I believe that when our planet exhausts its supply of petroleum, the bicycle will take on a more prominent role in society, becoming the go-to mode of transportation for many. That isn’t to say that new forms of transportation won’t be created and utilized, but more people will enjoy cycling.
