Since the artist retains all of the rights to the original piece, creating a remix would be a violation of their intellectual property.
The original artist should have the sole ownership of their musical creation and all unique songs are the original work of a musician and they have full control of the copyright associated with it. No one should tamper with any newly created music, beat, or tune that has never been heard before. It should remain original.
It is like rewriting a famous classic novel because it was written a too long time ago, giving it a modern spin. That would be ridiculous.
The thing is, remixes take away from the originality of the track, as well as the original intention and the message of the composer. I have heard many house or club remixes of classic 80s songs that lose their impact and uniqueness in the process.
Furthermore, if a remix is more successful than the source track, people will become accustomed to it and will not remember the original song. They may even forget the actual composer, and another person may become well-known instead, one who is not as talented as the original creator.
No amount of money can make up for the fact that a remix of a song can damage the original version. Even if the original artist is compensated, it does not undo the damage. Similarly, even if the remixer becomes famous, it will never make up for stealing from the original songwriter.
