I am rewatching Lost. I remember watching it in the 2000.s Whenever I came home from Nyíregyháza, I could not wait to sit down in front of my monitor and watch the latest episode. I was a bit over-confident about myself because I thought I would remember most scenes but surprisingly, there are a lot of scenes that I do not remember. It is not necessarily a bad thing: this way I can enjoy it more because not remembering some episodes or scenes comes with a higher anticipation. Sometimes I feel like watching a completely unwatched series, which gives me more excitement. I do in my free time, between my two shifts. Sometimes I watch it before bad but I need to be careful: if an episode is too exciting, I will want to watch another episode and I will go to sleep later.
Now let me share some of my observations about this series.
First of all, I think Michael is a psychopath. OK, I get it, you do everything for your child. Everything. Wait! What? So does it entitle you to kill innocent people too? Seriously? Does it entitle you to take innocent lives? It does not make you a better person than those who kidnapped your son. Actually, you become a worse person. Is it OK to become a cold-blooded serial killer whether or not it is about your son? I mean, of course you do everything you can but killing innocent people (Anna Lucia and Libby) is not right at all. This action poses very serious moral questions.
These actions can be perceived as morally reprehensible.
What is more, he knew that his son was all right and was not tortured, was not in danger but still, he was acting like a paranoid idiot. I think he very much overshot the mark. I think he also overdid things when he felt zero empathy towards others. OK, I get it that he was looking for his son but come on, he super selfish.
Michael’s decision to betray his fellow survivors by siding with the Others and turning against them can also be viewed as deceitful and selfish. Why did he not just play with open cards by revealing the deal (exchanging Ben for Walt)? I am sure they all could have come up with a plan regarding setting Ben free.
And he was such a hypocrite! He wanted to do everything for his son, yet he did not really know him. He was not even interested in his son’s apparent paranormal abilities.
On the other hand, I think the most annoying character is Kate. She is stubborn, does not understand what people would like around her, she think she know better what her friends want. Why can she not just settle with Sawyer after sleeping with him? Why does she care about Jack? She has made a decision – it is pathetic to go back to him.
Also, she makes stupid decisions and her actions are irrational. For example, she fights Julia, even if Julia is trying to be friendly with her. She is just irritating.
She often engages in impulsive and risky behavior, putting herself and others in danger. To me, it makes her character frustrating to watch, especially when her actions have negative consequences. She just has zero empathy.
Additionally, why the hell are they choosing to return to the primitive camp instead of remaining in the comfort of the village? It seems more practical for everyone to relocate there.
