Moments of comfort

I had two classes in the morning. They were easy and I did not have to prepare a lot for them because they were A1 classes. At least, they steadied my nerves because they distracted me a bit from my wife’s surgery. We texted to each other a bit in the morning but when she did not answer, I knew that she was transferred to the operation theater. To further unwind, I decided to go to Spar and DM. I bought a pack of chicken slices and a zero bar.

My lunch was going to be chicken slices and rice cake. I had to eat something else because I had been consuming too much zero bar. In DM, was looking for my fiber texture for my hair but as I still did not find it, I had to realize that it was no longer produced. So I decided to give two other products a try: I bought a jar of molding clay and a jar of max hold wax. I would see which one would be better. Oh and I bought a small pot of flowers to my wife. It might sound cheesy but it had a heartfelt touch with a Valentine’s Day theme. She likes flowers and plants anyway so I hoped she would like it.

Then I went back to the motel and she finally texted me. As soon as she did, it was such a huge relief. I knew she was over it and she is through the hardest part. Now she would only have to recover. She told me about how the surgery went and we had a funny conversation about her being there (poor her, she was so hungry!). She had a painful shot into her shoulders and she had to be naked under the blanket, which felt weird to her. But at least, the nurses were taking care of her.

Feeling relieved, I went down to the empty bar and had dinner and a beer while we were still chatting. Then I had a hot relaxing shower and went to bed.

Reflecting this day, I can say that individuals facing stressful situations, such as a loved one undergoing surgery, may find solace in routine activities, distractions, and communication. In this case, attending work and engaging in everyday tasks like shopping for groceries provided a temporary distraction and eased anxiety.

The act of buying a small pot of flowers for the wife, despite sounding cheesy, might reflect an attempt to bring a heartfelt touch and comfort during a challenging time. The supportive communication and relief tells me how important it is to stay connected and find moments of comfort amidst challenging situations.
