My spouse and I had just completed our viewing of Games of Thrones, and I wanted to construct an opinion on the series by delving straight into the heart of it.
At first, I empathized with Kalisi’s plight and had hoped she would prove to be a different type of ruler than Cercei; one that would see slavery abolished and bring about positive change. But the moment she had a person beheaded, my faith in her was shattered. She was just as barbaric as the other rulers instead of being driven by mercy and love. Why did she hunger for more than what she already had?
Why was it not enough for her to remain content with the kingdoms she had already conquered? She could have been a great leader in the East, but instead, she chose to become greedy and childish!
As for Bran, he was absolutely useless. What was the point of taking him along on all these adventures if he wasn’t going to make use of his skills? Why was he so inactive and unhelpful? He was nothing more than a talking ornament that did nothing. I hoped he would possess one of the dragons. What an opportunity was missed.
And I see no point in the Faceless Man. What was the point of his activity? It adds nothing to the story. Arya learned the magic sure, but the role of that blond man seemed senseless.
I also expected something more from the Red Haired woman. She was a witch for god’s sake! I wanted to see more magic from her or something…
This world was portrayed as overly barbaric: This world was too savage: people could take someone’s life without worrying about consequences. I think the murders committed were totally uncalled for and ridiculously pointless. Everyone acted like a psychopath and no one seemed to care.
The White Walkers really had no place in the show. It was like watching a medieval Walking Dead; I found the human battles for control of the kingdom far more interesting than any undead creatures. There was no need to complicate an already complex story with zombies. In my opinion, it was too distracting from the main plot.
Destroying Westeros was absolutely on top of everything. Kalisi was a cruel psychopath mass murderer. It would have been satisfying to show Westeros after the reconstruction.
And in the final episode, Sam’s proposal to implement a vote could have been a turning point in the birth of democracy. I expected this to improve drastically after his suggestion, but unfortunately, it did not happen. If only they had shown the actual birth of a new political system instead of just hinting at it, the ending would have been more satisfactory.
The events could have taken a turn for the better much earlier on, leading to a peaceful transition to democracy as the ultimate conclusion.
Ah, Game of Thrones, the epitome of well-thought-out character development and plot twists. Kalisi, our beacon of hope for a just ruler, turned out to be just as savage and power-hungry as the rest. Who would’ve thought? It’s not like the show was full of unexpected turns or anything.
And Bran, the ever-useful psychic ornament. I mean, why give him all those magical skills if he’s just going to sit there like a potted plant? Maybe they forgot he existed half the time. Oh, the missed opportunity of him riding a dragon – what a spectacle that would have been!
The Faceless Man, a character whose purpose was as clear as mud. Arya learned some magic, but who cares about a blond man with a meaningless role, right? And the Red Haired woman, a witch who forgot her own spells. Magic? Nah, let’s keep it grounded.
This world, portrayed as overly barbaric, was apparently too savage even for a show literally called Game of Thrones. People taking lives without consequences? Shocking. The White Walkers, the medieval Walking Dead – because who needs fantasy elements in a fantasy series? It’s distracting, apparently.
And Westeros, post-Daenerys’ barbeque session, would have been a sight to behold. Destruction and chaos, the true legacy of a psychopathic mass murderer. Who wouldn’t want to witness the aftermath?
Sam’s proposal for democracy, a beacon of hope for political progress. But alas, why bother showing the birth of a new political system when you can just hint at it and leave everyone hanging? It’s not like we’ve invested years of our lives in this series or anything. Such a satisfying conclusion, right?
