My Thoughts on the Recent Elections

As I mentioned it in my previous post, I went to vote. There were a lot of committee members in the designated office and it was quite hot but we both successfully voted for our candidates.

After the voting, I went to the supermarket because I did not have frozen vegetables for dinner. Anyway, the point of this post is not this but discussing the results of the election. It was disheartening to realize that the liberal party I voted for (Momentum) did not get any seats in the European Parliament. I voted for them, after all, because I believe they could handle the country without being too dictatorial and they could definitely develop the country in a different way. It is just disappointing that they did not get seats.

But the good news is that the mayor election in my city was won by the person who I like. He hes actually been the mayor for decades, so he is competent enough. In my district however, I was not sure who I should vote for as I did not know anybody. Actually, I had heard of one person so I voted for him. In retrospect, it was a mistake because I should have learned more about the local candidates in my district. It turned out that the person who I voted for had been the representative of my district for 30 years and one of his bad side is that he dos not listen to the citizens wishes in terms of what to spend the money on. Additionally, the only thing that he develops is the community centre. Who cares? There is a big green empty area not far from our building – commercial places are necessary there and the road in our street is not the best – it should be improved too.

To my surprise however, this person did not win the elections and I was happy to hear that. Actually, it was won by the political partner of the mayor. Subsequently, they must cooperate better and I expect a better administration.

And finally what i am not happy about is the mayor election in the capital. It was won by the same person, Gergely Karácsony, who, in my opinion has not been doing much. I think the other candidate, Dávid Vitézy could have been better. One of their aim was to put security guards on the public transport, which could have increase public security.

So this is my assessment of the latest election.
