On our last day, which was another bright and balmy morning, we made our way to the local market once more, then we returned home to prepare for the long journey back home. I have to tell you, it was not easy to pack everything into the suitcases as we exceeded the weight limit, so we had to plan how to pack and what carefully, which was a real challenge to my wife.
We also had to prioritise what to take with us and what to left. Fortunately we did not have to leave many things behind besides some packs of frozen fruit and two towels. The thing is, my wife tried to take home as much groceries as she could because those products are not available in Hungary, of course. Since they are frozen, they will last long, so it was a logical thing to buy frozen products. She ordered a special styrofoam box, which gave a proper insulation for the products and it would protect them during the journey.
My problem was how to “smuggle” home some mangoes as they were heavy and they could not fit in the suitcases anymore. What I did was putting them into the inside pockets of my jacket, so what I had to do is just putting on the jacket and walk. As it turned out later, the plan was successful – however, they questioned me smiling at the X-ray machine if I was having fruit with me and I said yes. Their shock was more obvious as they laughed it off.
The thing is, we bought two unripe mangoes to take them home because I want my family to experience tasting it back home later.
Fortunately, all the journey went smooth, however it was my wife this time, who came down with the cold.
What an adventurous end to your trip! Packing struggles and smuggling mangoes – sounds like you had quite the experience. The lengths we go to bring back a taste of vacation! Safe travels!
