I was nervous because today I had my trial interview at a school with the principal. I’m applying for a position as a history teacher, teaching history in English. The school is an old brick building—clearly full of character and history, probably having seen many school years go by.
The principal told me I could start on September 1st if I’m interested. She said I would be teaching history to students from grades 5 to 8—so, essentially middle schoolers. It sounded exciting, and she reassured me that it wouldn’t be too overwhelming. I just need to keep things simple and explain clearly.
I really liked the scope of the job because it means I’d get to teach something beyond just English. Now that I’m starting university, what could be better? She also mentioned I’d be teaching some English as well, which I don’t mind.
She said our day would usually end around 1 PM, as long as there are no extra classes. Of course, there’s still admin work like logging classes and grading, and we have breaks too. It’s tempting. My wife is encouraging me, and honestly, I think I’ll take the job.
Showing up, even when you’re nervous, opens doors.
