I read on the Internet that a dam in southern Ukraine had been destroyed, resulting in devastating floods in the region. Ukraine’s military and Nato accuse Russia of blowing up the dam, while Russia blames Ukraine.
The breach in the dam caused water to surge and flood downstream towards Kherson. Evacuations have taken place, and catastrophic flooding has affected low-lying areas. Concerns arise over contamination, desertification, and damage to agricultural land and infrastructure.
Ukraine alleges deliberate destruction by Russia, while Russia claims Ukrainian sabotage. Verification of these claims is pending. The dam provided cooling water to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power station, which is under Russian control. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) monitors the situation for any nuclear safety risks.
The dam played a crucial role in supplying water to Russian-occupied Crimea, potentially affecting water flow along the channel. Russia has previously targeted dams in Ukraine, leading to flooding and power disruptions.
In war, human life is often treated as expendable. The ultimate goal is victory at any cost. No matter the sacrifice, people’s lives are put in harm’s way. This kind of disregard for humanity sickens me. It’s always the civilians who suffer most from conflict, while politicians hide away in their plush castles – uncaring of how many people must die just to gain some land.
What is more appalling is that they keep promoting war even if it leads to the desolation of the land until it becomes a desert.
