The keys to cognitive wellness

According to Medical Xpress, playing a musical instrument, especially the piano, is associated with better brain health in older adults, according to a study from the University of Exeter. The study, analyzed data from over a thousand adults aged 40 and older. Results showed that engaging in music, particularly playing instruments like the piano, is linked to improved memory and executive function. Continuing to play music into later life provides even greater cognitive benefits. Singing was also associated with better brain health, potentially due to social factors involved in group activities like choirs. The findings suggest that promoting musical education could contribute to public health initiatives for brain health in older adults.

Playing a musical instruments have several benefits; one of them is the improvement of cognitive skills, as the article says. Personally, I always admire those who can play the piano or the violin. Playing these instruments is a really complex mental work – no wonder it develops cognitive skills. I wish to have taken piano lessons when I was a child. My parents signed me up for folk dance but I do not think I benefited much from that course – not to mention that I was always bullied by those monsters. Yeah, I call them monsters because when I think of them, I only see cruel bastards. Anyway, piano music has soul, it is like a living entity with emotions – just listen to any piano piece. It is like a magical thing, being able to communicate with you. For example, check this or this out and you will see what I am talking about.
