Today we went in for our second-trimester ultrasound—the big one where they check all the baby’s measurements and, hopefully, show you that sweet little face.
But our baby had other plans.
She was facing inward the entire time. We walked around, my wife had some cake, we waited and tried again. Still nothing. It was honestly a bit frustrating, but finally, after more walking and patience, she turned just enough to let the technician get the measurements done.
Thankfully, everything looked perfect. Her size matched the gestational age exactly, and the doctor said she’s growing beautifully.
Then came something unexpected: we were referred for genetic counseling. At first, it felt confusing, since everything was normal. But we learned it’s just routine because of my wife’s age—not because they saw anything concerning.
The report also mentioned two small fibroids in the uterus, but the doctor reassured us they’re very common and not causing any problems.
So even though the baby played a little game of hide-and-seek, the scan turned out well in the end. A bit of stress, a bit of waiting—but mostly, a huge sense of relief. We even caught a glimpse of her little face. Just enough to fall in love with her all over again.
