UNESCO recommends putting Venice on its heritage danger list

I read on CNN that UNESCO had suggested adding Venice, Italy, to its heritage danger list due to ongoing issues with mass tourism and climate change. The organization is calling on the Italian government to address these problems promptly. Venice is currently a World Heritage Site, but these concerns threaten its cultural and natural attributes. The recommendation awaits approval in September. Venice has faced various weather-related challenges, compounding its overtourism issues. Italian authorities have not yet responded to UNESCO’s recommendation.

I still remember when my wife and I hit up Venice. That place was packed to the brim. No doubt, overtourism can mess up these world heritage spots. All those people can accidentally mess up the ancient buildings, antiques, and stuff, even if they do not mean to. We have to do something to safeguard these spots.

I had a similar deal at Stonehenge, you know? I really wanted to lay a hand on those stones, but there was this fence keeping people away. At first, I was bummed, but then it hit me, it’s the only way to shield these monuments from tourists. Venice, though, I’m clueless about how they’ll pull it off.
