Are you a handyman or do you need help?

As I am not a handyman, I usually need some help when something needs to be fixed or assembled. When we moved into our new apartment and needed assistance with putting together the furniture, I called upon a carpenter for help. Although it came at a price, the work was completed successfully.

The thing is, most of the furniture in our apartment required professional installation, so that is why we hired them. The shelves needed to be aligned, and all parts of the cabinets had to fit together perfectly – something that couldn’t be done with our own set of tools.

As my wife is an engineer, she is significantly better at putting together things based on manual instructions. I recall when we occupied our previous flat and had to construct a bed. I was almost ready to give up, but she had the ability to visualize how it should be put together. I think I am just too impatient and I should just sit down and study the manual more carefully. But the thing is, it takes time and energy so if there is a professional person around you who does not charge much and his prices are acceptable why not hire him?

Of course, if I buy simple furniture like a desk or shelf, I can also assemble it myself with manual instruction so I think I am not completely hopeless.
